Palazzo Balsamo
A timeless palazzo that gracefully transcends eras.
Origin and transformation
Palazzo Balsamo stands proudly in the heart of late 19th-century Palermo, rooted in an era defined by profound transformations and bold visions. In 1872, Baron Antonio Balsamo reimagined the residence’s former stables, transforming them into a hub of experimentation and avant-garde innovation. This bold gesture marked a significant turning point in the history of Via Divisi and the cultural fabric of the city.
Today, that same progressive spirit takes a new shape: a refined hotel that honours its legacy while remaining vibrantly alive in the present.
Origin and transformation
The history of Palazzo Balsamo is inherently tied to a vision of progress that feels natural, never forced. The Baron’s introduction of the velocipede to the city was not merely a technical novelty, but a pioneering vision for a new way to experience urban spaces.
This legacy still echoes through the palazzo today. In the entrance hall, the very first bicycle commissioned by the Baron greets guests as a silent testament to our heritage—an object that elegantly tells the story of our past without the need for explanation, accompanying your arrival with subtle discretion.

The ownership
At the heart of Palazzo Balsamo is the vision of Andrea Cammareri, founder of the Natoli Group—an entrepreneur active across multiple sectors and driven by a profound passion for art, writing, and music. Deeply connected to the land and agricultural life, he personally oversees the family’s organic farm, ensuring its harvest becomes an integral part of the hotel experience, bringing unparalleled quality, ethical sourcing, and a genuine taste of Sicily to the table.
Alongside him is Floriana Cammareri, architect and interior designer, who serves as the creative force behind the project. She curates the design of the spaces with both sensitivity and rigorous attention to detail, seamlessly overseeing the visual, olfactory, and communicative identity of the group. Together, they share a unified vision: to craft spaces that blend beauty, harmony, and a conscious elegance designed to transcend time.
The contemporary project
The restoration of Palazzo Balsamo was conceived as a process of profound enhancement of the building’s historical identity, executed with deep respect for the memory of the place to fulfill the owners’ vision without compromising its authenticity.
Within this meticulous process, the contribution of Celestina Sgroi was paramount. Her expertise guided the selection of materials, the refined colour palette, and the definition of bespoke furnishings, always oriented towards solutions that honour the history of the palazzo. This delicate balance between preservation and contemporary design, paired with material and aesthetic sensitivity, has decisively shaped the final identity of Palazzo Balsamo and the exceptional quality of its spatial experience.
Art project
Within Palazzo Balsamo, art is not merely displayed; it is lived. Contemporary works engage in a seamless dialogue with the architecture, elevating the spaces without disrupting their intrinsic harmony. Carefully curated music contributes to defining a consistent, enveloping atmosphere that is never intrusive.
The selection of artworks is thoughtfully curated by Alessandro Pinto, an independent curator and expert in contemporary art, whose approach deeply explores the relationship between artistic languages, physical space, and cultural context. This vision is beautifully complemented by the contribution of Maria Mazzara, an independent bibliographer who has selected books and magazines—ranging from rare editions to collectible volumes—integrating them into the interiors as living elements of the palazzo’s ongoing cultural narrative.
Musical project
The musical curation at Palazzo Balsamo was designed to shape a coherent and distinctive soundscape, perfectly tailored to accompany guests throughout the shifting moments of the day. This is not music simply meant to be heard, but experienced—meticulously integrated with the space, the lighting, the bespoke scents, and the leisurely rhythm of our hospitality.
Here, history is not merely a story to be told, but a rich context waiting to be lived. It offers a flawless balance between memory and the present, between intimate seclusion and the vibrant city, accompanying your stay with effortless grace.
